Community Health Information and Communication Network

Whilst visiting the Kibera slums Kenya in 2023 I was supported and guided by Leonard Normans. He not only kept me safe but also proved to be a wealth of knowledge, identifying individuals and groups who I was particularly interested in meeting. Leonard Normans founded Community Health Information and Communication Network (CHICONET) in February 2012.  It’s a Community Based Organization located in the heart of the Kibera slums, Nairobi County, Kenya. CHICONET, at its inception, focused on people with disabilities. In 2024, the organisation recognising the pressing need for the community to focus down on the most un-catered for groups in the community which are ‘boys’/’young men’ and the ‘visually impaired’. As in many low-income communities, these children are often left behind to the detriment of the children and their community. Changing focus will address the already pressing need and lead to a more equitable, safe and peaceful local and global society. To find out more about CHICONET see their website: http://chiconet.org/
